Jasper Lumber Co. Receives Supplemental Funding to Support Mill Expansion and Production Growth
Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey recently announced supplemental funding from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has been made available to augment the $300,000 Community Development Block Grant, awarded in March 2022, to assist Jasper Lumber Company to boost its production and create 60 new jobs.
The ARC funds will be used to reconstruct two rail lines from the mill to the main railroad line, enabling the company to transport its lumber.
The company’s original expansion came about through an agreement signed in November 2020 with Tolko Industries, a Canadian-based company, which created a 50-50 joint venture partnership in the Jasper mill.
With the expansion, Jasper Lumber expects its output of lumber to grow from 70 million to 200 million board feet annually.
