Enviva Suspends Production at Its Amory, Mississippi, Pellet Plant Due to Tornado Damage

Enviva Inc., the world’s leading producer of sustainably sourced woody biomass, reported on Monday (3-27-23) that its original plant in the Southeast US, located in Amory, Mississippi, sustained damage when a strong tornado touched down in the area last Thursday (3-24-23).

Enviva is reporting that all of its associates are safe and accounted for. However, due to the storm damage, operations at the company’s 115,000 metric ton per year wood pellet production facility have been suspended pending a full review of the damage. The company notes that the Amory facility insurance covers property damage, inclusive of business interruption and casualty coverage.

Enviva’s larger plants and ports in the region were not impacted by the storm. Given the small size of the facility—relative to the more than six million metric tons of installed production capacity across the company’s portfolio—the impact on customers and to the financial performance of the company is expected to be minimal.
