Alberta Officials Welcome Mondi Group to the Province After Its Purchase of Hinton Pulp Mill

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, joined by Matt Jones, Minister of Jobs, Economy, and Trade, and Todd Loewen, Minister of Forestry and Parks, issued a joint statement on Wednesday welcoming Mondi, a multinational packaging and paper group, to Alberta and Canada.

Mondi recently completed the purchase of the Hinton Pulp mill from West Fraser.

The officials said:

“We are pleased to welcome Mondi Group to Alberta and Canada. This pulp mill in Hinton marks the company’s entry into the Canadian market, which is a clear vote of confidence for our vibrant and resilient economy.

Alberta’s forestry sector is an important job creator and a vital part of a strong economy. The forest manufacturing industry alone employs about 20,000 people and has attracted an estimated $7 billion (CAD) in investments to our province over the past decade.

That number continues to grow, thanks to Mondi’s investment. As the newest company to recognize their potential for growth and success in Alberta, they are also opening the door to success for Alberta workers and families by creating 120 permanent and construction jobs in the Hinton area.”
