US Wood Pellet Exports Decline Month-Over-Month in April, but Remain Up Year-Over-Year

According to data released on Wednesday by the US Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service and reporting by Biomass Magazine (6-8-23), the US exported 720,209.2 metric tons of wood pellets in April. This is down from 909,781.1 metric tons in March but up from 659,071.0 metric tons in April 2022.

The US exported wood pellets to more than 12 different countries in March. The UK was the top destination for wood pellet exports in April at 348,724 metric tons, followed by the Netherlands at 228,318.7 metric tons and Japan at 106,706.4 metric tons.

The value of US wood pellet exports reached $129.17 million in April, down from $169.43 million in March and $145.41 million in April 2022.

In the first four months of 2023, total US wood pellet exports reached 2.90 million metric tons at a value of $531.25 million, compared to 2.74 million metric tons at a value of $458.1 million during the same period in 2022.
