US Wood Pellet Exports Decline Month-Over-Month but Are Up Year-Over-Year in July 2022

According to data released on Wednesday (9-7-22) by the US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Foreign Agricultural Service, the US exported 649,185.7 metric tons of wood pellets in July, down month-over-month from June’s 832,092.2 metric tons of wood pellets but up year-over-year from 546,519.9 metric tons in July 2021.

The US exported wood pellets to more than 12 different countries in July. The UK was the top destination for US wood pellet exports at 345,802.4 metric tons, followed by the Netherlands at 166,974.5 metric tons and Japan at 45,102.0 metric tons.

The value of US wood pellet exports was $119.89 million (USD) in July. This is down from June’s $141.32 million but up when compared to $81.87 reported in July 2021.

Total US wood pellet exports for the first seven months of 2022 reached 4.97 million metric tons at a value of $851.09 million, compared to 4.12 million metric tons at a value of $596.7 million exported during the same period of last year.
