Stora Enso Launches Strategic Review of Central European Sawmill Operations
On Friday, Stora Enso said it has begun a strategic review of its Central European sawmill and building solutions operations, a process that will run through 2026. The review covers one business unit within the Wood Products division, including seven sawmills in Austria, Czechia, Poland, and Lithuania, three CLT mills, wood procurement, and international sales and distribution.
The company said the business holds a strong position in an attractive market but does not provide strategic or operational synergies with its core renewable packaging operations.
Stora Enso noted that the review will assess multiple scenarios, including a possible divestment. Operations in Northern Europe—including sawmills and further processing units in Sweden, Finland, Estonia, and Latvia—are not part of the review and remain strategically important to the company.
Stora Enso plans to provide an update in 2026. Until then, operations will continue normally, with an ongoing focus on delivering competitive products and services. Any potential changes will be subject to co-determination processes and legal requirements in affected countries.
