Southern Forest Industries to Pause Operations at Its Smarr, GA, Sawmill

Southern Forest Industries will temporarily halt production at its Smarr, Georgia, sawmill, according to The Monroe County/Macon Reporter (11-13-25).

The shutdown follows the decision by PalletOne—SFI’s largest customer and a tenant at the site—to cease pallet manufacturing at the facility. With that loss of volume, SFI said it cannot maintain operations under current market conditions.

“PalletOne represents a significant portion of our business, and given current market conditions in the wood industry, it is not feasible to replace this volume with sales to outside customers,” the company said in a statement.
