Severe Storm Fells Estimated 10 Million Cubic Meters of Forest in Sweden

A severe late-December storm is estimated to have felled roughly 10 million m3 of forest across northern Sweden, according to a joint assessment by the Swedish Forest Agency and the Forestry Board, the Sweden Herald reported (1-8-26).

The hardest-hit areas were Dalarna and Gävleborg counties, with significant damage also reported along the coast from Uppland to Norrbotten, as well as in parts of Västernorrland and Jämtland.

Based on the assessment, the storm ranks as the fourth most damaging forest storm recorded in Sweden since 1993, authorities said. The most devastating storm was Gudrun in 2005 when 75 million m3 of forest fell.
