Segezha Group Begins Exporting Russian Sawn Timber to Tunisia
Russia’s Segezha Group has started exporting sawn timber to the Tunisian market, the company told Interfax on Wednesday.
The first shipment totaled 4,000 m3 of Angara pine, purchased by a long-time business partner experienced in both the Tunisian and Russian timber industries. Segezha had previously outlined plans to enter North African markets and considered establishing a production and logistics hub in Egypt to serve the wider region.
China remains the group’s main export destination, accounting for 78% of sawn timber shipments in the first half of 2025—about 1 million m3—while MENA markets comprised 15% and Russia 5%.
Segezha Deputy CEO Nikolai Ivanov said:
“This shipment is an important strategic step for us. We have ambitious projects. We are currently negotiating to expand the range of goods which we export, by which we are referring specifically to birch plywood. The quality of Angara pine and the reliability of our Tunisian partner open up broad opportunities for our holding to grow its presence in the region.”
