Timberlab Helps Bring Austin, TX, Mass Timber Office Building to Life

The Workbench, a four-story mass-timber office building in East Austin, Texas, is open for business, Austin Business Journal reported (6-5-26).

The roughly 50,000-square-foot project pairs exposed CLT and glulam with polished concrete floors, daylight, traditional office suites, a lighting showroom, and street-level retail. Several local architecture, engineering, and construction firms helped deliver the building and will occupy a large share of the space.

Swinerton said prefabricated mass timber helped speed construction. Timberlab supplied the CLT and glulam components.

Developers estimate the timber in the building stores about 500 metric tons of carbon. They also estimate that choosing mass timber over a conventional concrete-and-steel structure avoided roughly 1,070 metric tons of CO2.
