US National Interagency Fire Center Wildfire Update for August 11
National Fire News: August 11, 2025
On Monday, the US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported that 36 large wildfires are actively burning nationwide.
The National Fire Preparedness Level remains at 4 out of 5.
A total of 16,902 wildland firefighters and support personnel are assigned, up from last Friday as activity increases in the Northern Rockies, Northwest, and California. Resources include four military C-130 airtankers equipped with Modular Airborne Firefighting Systems (MAFFS)—two operating from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and two from Mesa, Arizona. The aircraft are from Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard units in Colorado, Nevada, California, and Wyoming.
Three fuels and fire behavior advisories remain in effect for parts of Nevada, California, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, and Wyoming.
Daily Statistics
As of Monday, Colorado leads with seven large wildfires, followed by Arizona and California with six each. Idaho has five; Nevada, Utah, and Washington each have three; New Mexico has two; and Louisiana has one. None are reported as partially contained.
The updated year-to-date comparison is as follows:
- Year-to-date through August 11, 43,061 wildfires have been reported, burning 3,623,392 acres.
- During the same period in 2024, 22,320 wildfires were reported, burning 5,224,060 acres.
- The 10-year average (2015–24) for the same period is 36,320 wildfires and 4,379,000 acres burned.
