Mayr-Melnhof Holz Completes Acquisition of Sweden’s Bergkvist Siljan Sawmill Group

Mayr-Melnhof Holz, one of Europe’s leading sawmilling and engineered wood products companies, announced that it has received the final approval from the competition authorities and, as a result, has completed its acquisition of the Swedish sawmill group Bergkvist Siljanh.

Bergkvist Siljan produces around 850,000 m3 of spruce and pine sawn timber annually. The group consists of three modern sawmills as well as one of the largest container terminals in Sweden.

The new Bergkvist Siljan sites in Insjön, Mora, and Blyberg (all in central Sweden) complement the existing Mayr-Melnhof Holz sawmills in Leoben (Austria), Paskov (Czech Republic), and Efimovskij (Russia).

Mayr-Melnhof Holz, with approximately 5 million m3 of log processing capacity, will become Europe’s third largest sawmiller. And for the first time in its 170-year history, the group expects turnover to exceed 1 billion euros in the 2022 financial year.
