Latvia’s Stiga RM Plans to Expand Birch Plywood Production at Its Kuldīga Mill

Stiga RM, a Latvian timber company, announced on Thursday that it plans to significantly expand its birch plywood mill in Kuldīga this year with an investment of more than 10.5 million euros, LSM reported (3-21-24).

The company is planning to add an additional 2,900 square meters of production space and modernize the facility with new energy-efficient and environmentally friendly equipment.

The company says that an office building in close proximity to the plant will be dismantled later in the spring and replaced with a heat treatment pool with equipment. Simultaneously, work is underway to rebuild and expand the production site, build another production building, create a repair base for machinery, and build new offices.

The factory currently employs 278 people, and the number of positions is expected to grow after the completion of the expansion projects, though the company did not say by how much. In 2023, Stiga RM was the city of Kuldīga’s largest employer and taxpayer, LSM reported.
