Brazilian Exports of Wood-Based Products Declined Month-Over-Month and Year-Over-Year in February
According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) declined 36.0% year-over-year in value in February, from US$413.6 million a year ago to US$264.2 million in February.
Pine sawnwood exports fell 26.0% in value, decreasing from US$68.6 million in February 2022 to US$50.9 million in February 2023. In volume, exports declined 15.0% during the same period, from 252,800 cu.m to 215,200 cu.m.
Tropical sawnwood exports decreased 22.0% in volume, from 30,800 cu.m in February 2022 to 24,00 cu.m in February 2023. In value terms, exports increased 2.4%, from US$12.4 million to US$12.7 million, over the same time period.
Demand for pine plywood exports fell 44%, from US$91.0 million in February 2022 to US$51.4 million in February 2023. In volume terms, exports dropped 28.0% over the same time period, from 228,700 cu.m to 165,700 cu.m.
Tropical plywood exports declined 22.0% in volume and by 28.0% in value, from 5,900 cu.m and US$2.9 million in February 2022 to 4,600 cu.m and US$2.1 million in February 2023.
Th value of wooden furniture exports fell from US$60.1 million in February 2022 to US$38.6 million in February 2023—a 36.0% decline.
