Domtar Announces Immediate Curtailment of Glenwood, AR, Sawmill

Domtar Corporation has announced a phased curtailment of its Glenwood, Arkansas, sawmill, with full shutdown expected by October 10, Southwest Arkansas Radio reported (9-4-25).

In a statement, Pike County Judge Eddie Howard (chief of the county government) said Domtar cited low market demand for wood products and rising interest rates as the primary factors in the decision. The mill ceased purchasing sawlogs on Tuesday afternoon, and operations will remain halted until further notice.

Domtar officials indicated they will reassess the situation around December 1, with a possible restart at that time. They also pointed to the potential reopening of the Caddo River Railroad, a project pursued by the Southwest Arkansas Regional Intermodal Authority (SWARIA), as a factor that could improve shipping economics.
