Brazilian Exports of Wood-Based Products Decline Year-Over-Year in September
According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), in September, Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) declined 24.0% in value compared to September 2022, from US$341.3 million in September 2022 to US$259.7 million in September 2023.
Pine sawnwood exports dropped 41.0% in value, decreasing from US$69.6 million in September 2022 to US$41.3 million in September 2023. In volume, exports decreased by over 25% during the same period, from 242,300 m3 to 182,000 m3.
Tropical sawnwood exports declined 25.0% in volume, from 30,800 m3 in September 2022 to 23,000 m3 in September 2023. In value, exports fell 31.0% from US$14.8 million to US$10.2 million over the same time period.
Demand for pine plywood exports continued to increase, rising 14.0% in value from US$41.6 million in September 2022 to US$47.4 million in September 2023. In volume, exports increased 34.0% over the same time period, from 114,100 m3 to 153,400 m3.
Tropical plywood exports declined 39.0% in volume and 48.0% in value, from 3,300 m3 and US $2.3 million in September 2022 to 2,000 m3 and US$1.2 million in September 2023.
The value of wooden furniture exports fell from US$53.8 million in September 2022 to US$47.0 million in September 2023. This represents a 13.0% decline.
