Brazilian Exports of Wood-Based Products Decline Year-Over-Year in March

According to the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO), the value of Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) fell 16.0% in March compared to March 2023, from US$341.0 million in March 2023 to $287.7 million in March 2024.

Pine sawnwood exports tumbled 28% in value, from $60.1 million in March 2023 to $43.6 million in March 2024. In volume terms, exports declined by 27.0%—from 258,900 m3 to 188,500 m3—during the same period.

Tropical sawnwood exports decreased 39.0% in volume, from 27,000 m3 in March 2023 to 16,500 m3 in March 2024. In value terms, exports dropped 48.0%—from $14.6 million to $7.6 million—over the same period.

Pine plywood exports increased 1.0% in value when compared to March 2023, from $68.6 million in March 2024 compared to $67.8 million in March 2023. In volume terms, exports decreased 2.0%, from 213,500 m3 in March 2023 to 208,800 m3 in March 2024.

Tropical plywood exports declined 44.0% in volume and 33% in value, from 3,400 m3 and $1.8 million in March 2023 to 1,900 m3 and $1.2 million in March 2024.

The value of wooden furniture decreased from $54.5 million in March 2023 to $45.4 million in March 2024—a 17.0% decline.
