Södra and SSEA Group Working Together on New Pilot Project in Sustainable Construction

Södra, Sweden’s largest forest owners association, and the construction company SSEA, a part of the SSEA Group, announced on Tuesday that they will build 12 apartments in Malmö, Sweden, in a new pilot project in sustainable construction. The project, which is being carried out on behalf of MKB Fastighets AB, aims to halve the climate impact by, among other things, using cross-laminated timber (CLT).

The pilot project, dubbed “Raspen 2,” includes building an apartment building with a CLT frame. According to the press release, the construction industry accounts for approximately 40% of all carbon dioxide emissions in the world. Building in wood is a way to reduce the climate impact of construction.

In remarks accompanying the announcement, Ola Landqvist, Business Developer at Södra Building Systems, said:

“Our raw material comes from family forestry in southern Sweden, CLT is locally produced and has the lowest climate impact on the market. The fact that we, together with SSEA, are involved in building a pilot project for EIA is an important and concrete step towards achieving more climate-neutral construction. We are proud to be able to contribute with wood knowledge and sustainable products from family forestry.”
