Number of Mass-Timber Buildings in BC Almost as Great as the Entire US

A three-year-old British Columbia government initiative has provided the impetus for the construction of 307 environmentally friendly, laminated wooden buildings in just BC alone. The total number of mass-timber wood buildings across the entire US is currently 356.

According to the Vancouver Sun several more mass-timber structures are on the way. Some of them will be high-rises, while others will be schools, libraries, or mixed commercial and residential buildings. All will continue to support the province’s large forest products industry.

Wooden structures made of cross-laminated timber (CLT)—which produces less carbon emissions than conventional steel and concrete buildings—are frequently cited by both politicians and environmentalists as a key to combating climate change.
