Langston Lumber Installs New End-Dogging Scragg Mill in Arkansas
Emmet, Arkansas-based Langston Lumber has completed the installation of a new end-dogging scragg mill from Baker, equipped with vertical edgers, Pallet Enterprise reported (5-1-25). Langston Lumber supplies pallet stock, crossties, cants, and more to customers across Texas and Arkansas.
The company has tested both hardwood and softwood in the new Baker scragg but plans to primarily process pine lumber for pallet cut stock.
“This is the first end-dogging scragg mill that Baker has ever made that has vertical edgers on it,” said Rodney Langston, president and owner of Langston Lumber. “We talked with Baker about doing this job, and they thought they could develop it. We love this design; it makes us efficient.”
The design saws and edges in one pass. “This design eliminates two employees downstream from having to edge a board,” Langston noted.
The new scragg will supplement production from the company’s existing Hurdle mill. “We’re hoping to get about 30,000 board feet per day out of this Baker scragg,” Langston said.
At its recent peak, Langston Lumber shipped 55,000 board feet of cants per week and about 30,000 board feet of cut stock.
