California Adopts Early 2021 International Building Codes Changes for Tall Wood Buildings
Agreeing that early adoption of mass timber will have many benefits for the state, the California Building Standards Commission has unanimously passed changes to the tall wood code. With this approval, California will adopt the entire series of the ICC approved change proposals for the design of tall wood buildings in California. California will become the fifth state to move forward with early adoption of the 2021 International Building Code. California will codify and publish the tall wood code provisions into the 2019 CBC in January 2021. It will become effective in July 2021.
