Weekly Jobless Claims Inch Lower in the Week Ending August 13, 2022

The US Department of Labor is reporting that an additional 250,000 Americans (seasonally adjusted) made their initial filing for unemployment benefits during the week ending on Saturday, August 13, 2022. This is a decrease of 2,000 from the previous week’s revised-lower level of 252,000. The 4-week moving average was 246,750—a decrease of 2,750 from the previous week’s revised-lower average of 249,500.

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment (known as continuing claims) during the week ending August 6, 2022, was 1,437,000—an increase of 7,000 from the previous week’s upwardly revised level of 1,430,000. The 4-week moving average was 1,413,000—an increase of 13,250 from the previous week’s upwardly revised average of 1,399,750.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.0% for the week ending August 6, 2022, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
