US Weekly Jobless Claims Decrease in the Week Ending September 2nd

The US Department of Labor reported on Thursday (9-7-23) that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 216,000 during the week ending Saturday, September 2nd. This is a decrease of 13,000 from the previous week’s revised level (originally reported as 228,000). The 4-week moving average was 229,250—a decrease of 8,500 from the previous week’s revised average of 237,750 (originally reported as 237,500).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims, during the week ending August 26th was 1,679,000. This is a decrease of 40,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,719,000 (originally reported as 1,725,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,701,500—a decrease of 1,250 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,702,750 (originally reported as 1,704,250).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.1% for the week ending August 26th, a decrease of 0.1 percentage point from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
