US Weekly Jobless Claims Decrease for the Week Ending April 22nd

The US Department of Labor is reporting that the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial unemployment claims was 230,000 during the week ending on Saturday, April 22nd. This is a decrease of 16,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 246,000 (originally reported as 245,000). The 4-week moving average was 236,000—a decrease of 4,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 240,000 (originally reported as 239,750).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment, known as continuing claims, during the week ending April 15th was 1,858,000. This is a decrease of 3,000 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,861,000 (originally reported as 1,865,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,836,500—an increase of 10,250 from the previous week’s revised level of 1,826,250 (originally reported as 1,827,250). This is the highest level for this average since December 18, 2021, when it was 1,838,000.

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.3% for the week ending April 15th, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
