US Weekly Jobless Claims Decline for the Week Ending September 3, 2022

The US Department of Labor is reporting that, seasonally adjusted, an additional 222,000 Americans made their initial filing for unemployment benefits during the week ending on Saturday, September 3, 2022. This is a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week’s revised-lower level of 228,000 (originally reported as 232,000). The 4-week moving average was 233,000—a decrease of 7,500 from the previous week’s revised-lower average of 240,500 (originally reported as 241,500).

The advance number for seasonally adjusted insured unemployment (known as continuing claims) during the week ending August 27, 2022, was 1,473,000. This is an increase of 36,000 from the previous week’s revised-lower level of 1,437,000 (originally reported as 1,438,000). The 4-week moving average was 1,439,000—an increase of 10,750 from the previous week’s revised-lower average of 1,428,500 (originally reported as 1,428,250).

The advance seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.0% for the week ending August 27, 2022, unchanged from the previous week’s unrevised rate.
