On Tuesday, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that the Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand rose 0.3% in September on a seasonally adjusted basis. The increase followed a 0.1% decline in August. On an unadjusted basis, the index increased 2.7% over the 12 months ending in September.
The September increase was driven by a 0.9% rise in prices for final demand goods, while prices for final demand services were unchanged.
The index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services edged up 0.1% after a 0.3% increase in August. Year-over-year, this measure was up 2.9%.
The BLS noted that data collection was completed before the lapse in federal appropriations.
