CN Receives 72-Hour Strike Intention Notification From Union Representing Signal and Communications Employees in Canada
The Canadian National Railway (CN) confirmed on Wednesday (6-15-22) that the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) has given them a 72-hour notice of if intention to strike (11:00 AM EDT on Saturday, June 18, 2022). The IBEW represents approximately 750 CN signal and communications employees in Canada.
In a news release, CN said they have been and will continue to negotiate with the union in good faith. CN says it has also offered to resolve any remaining difference, primarily wages, and benefits, through binding arbitration. CN remains optimistic that an agreement can be reached without a labor disruption.
CN also said that it has prepared and is ready to implement an operational contingency plan to ensure a normal level of continued safe operations for as long as required.
