Arbitrator Rules on New Contract Between CN and the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference
Arbitrator awards 3% raises for CN employees represented by TCRC
On Monday, Arbitrator William Kaplan released his decision on a three-year contract between the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) and Canadian National Railway (CN), which runs from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2026, FreightWaves reported (4-8-25).
Under the ruling, CN train service employees represented by TCRC will receive a 3% annual raise. Kaplan urged the railway and union to iron out their differences regarding changes to work rules.
The arbitration follows a brief lockout in August 2024 after TCRC and CN were unable to reach an agreement through collective bargaining. The work stoppage ended after the Canadian Industrial Relations Board referred the matter to binding arbitration.
The contract between Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and TCRC was also sent to arbitration, though a decision has yet to be announced.
