US National Interagency Fire Center Wildfire Update for August 10

The US National Interagency Fire Center (NIFC) reported that as of Monday, August 10, 98 large fires are actively burning across the country. Nationwide, 101 new wildfires were reported in the last day, including 9 large incidents.

The National Fire Preparedness Level remains at 5 out of 5.

The Northwest remains the nation’s most active fire area, with 46 uncontained large fires. The Wrights Spring Fire in Oregon and Little Giant Fire in Washington are exhibiting extreme fire behavior, with evacuations, road closures, and threats to homes and critical infrastructure reported on both incidents.

Predictive Services at the National Interagency Coordination Center issued two new fuels and fire behavior advisories for Southwest Idaho and Eastern Nevada/Central Utah.

As of Sunday, there are 98 large wildfires or emergency responses ongoing, covering 3,736,624 acres. Only 3 fires are partially contained.

Oregon leads with 24 active fires; Washington has 22; Idaho and Montana have 9 each; California and Colorado have 6 each; Minnesota has 5; Nevada and New Mexico have 4 each; Utah has 3; Wyoming has 2; and Arizona and Florida have 1 each.

The updated year-to-date comparison is as follows:

• Year-to-date through August 9, 46,064 wildfires have been reported, burning 6,354,141 acres.
• During the same period last year, 43,061 wildfires were reported, burning 3,623,392 acres.
• The 10-year average (2016–25) for the same period is 36,455 wildfires and 4,082,007 acres burned.
