US Mortgage Rates Drift Lower in the Week Ending August 13

On Thursday, Freddie Mac released its Primary Mortgage Market Survey for the week ending Thursday, August 13.

The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.67%, down from 6.69% the previous week. A year ago at this time, the 30-year rate averaged 6.58%.

The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.96%, down from 6.01% last week. A year ago at this time, the 15-year rate averaged 5.71%.

Commenting on this week’s survey, Freddie Mac Chief Economist Sam Khater said:

“Mortgage rates remained relatively stable this week at 6.67%. Housing affordability has improved from a year ago, and recent increases in purchase and refinance applications suggest that borrowers continue to respond to even modest changes in mortgage rates.”
