BC Wildfire Service Reports Five Fires Burning Out of Control

The British Columbia Wildfire Service (BCWS) said that five of the 14 active wildfires in the province are classified as out of control, the Canadian Press reported (4-22-26).

Four of the out-of-control fires were sparked the same day, including a blaze southwest of Grand Forks in BC’s southern Interior, estimated at 2.5 hectares. Fire information officer Aydan Coray said the Grand Forks Fire Department initially responded before requesting provincial support as the fire spread into surrounding grass.

Seven BCWS personnel and air tankers were deployed to the scene. Coray said no structures were immediately threatened as of Wednesday evening, and the cause remains under investigation.

Across the province, one wildfire is classified as “being held,” while eight are listed as “under control,” according to the BCWS dashboard. Since April 1, a total of 56 wildfires have been recorded, with 93% attributed to human activity.

Regionally, two of the out-of-control fires are located in the Southeast Fire Center, while the Kamloops, Cariboo, and Prince George fire centers each have one.
