Ghamoud Starts Production at Algeria’s First Continuous Particleboard Plant

Algerian wood-based panel manufacturer Ghamoud has produced its first board at a new continuous particleboard plant in El Eulma, Algeria, Wood Based Panels International reported (4-21-26).

The facility features a 13-meter CPS+ continuous press with an annual capacity of 100,000 cubic meters. Dieffenbacher, along with its Chinese subsidiary Shanghai Wood-based Panel Machinery (SWPM), supplied the full production line, including flaking, drying, gluing, forming, raw board handling, and sanding systems.

Owner and Managing Director Mohamed Ghamoud said the plant was designed for a smaller capacity aligned with market needs. “Dieffenbacher designed our new plant for a smaller capacity—perfectly suited to our market and with the corresponding positive effects on our budget,” he said. “The plant is the ideal entry-level system for newcomers like us to the wood-based panel market.”

Didier Goesaert, area sales director at Dieffenbacher, praised the project’s completion. “What Mohamed Ghamoud and his family have achieved here in northern Algeria, despite all the adversities, commands my utmost respect,” he said. “Challenges arose time and again during the course of the project, and time and again the Ghamoud family overcame them to bring the project to a successful conclusion.”

The project is one of four continuous wood-based panel plants delivered by Dieffenbacher in North Africa in recent years. Other developments include an MDF plant in El Tarf, Algeria, which began operations in May 2022, and a full MDF line in Sadat City, Egypt, where Nile Wood produced its first board in June 2025. A separate MDF line using date palm fronds for Egypt’s National Service Projects Organization is also expected to begin operations soon.
