BC Approves Tenure Transfer From Weyerhaeuser to Gorman Group

British Columbia has approved the transfer of forest tenures from Weyerhaeuser to the Gorman Group, completing a CA$120 million investment in the province’s forestry sector.

The transferred tenures total approximately 682,000 m3 and include the following:

  • Tree Farm License (TFL) 59 near Oliver, covering about 46,000 hectares (114,000 acres) and providing more than 57,000 m3 per year
  • Two replaceable forest licenses in the Merritt timber supply area, totaling over 538,000 m3 annually
  • One license in the Okanagan timber supply area, providing nearly 87,000 m3 annually

The acquisition strengthens Gorman Group’s fiber supply, supporting its value-added wood manufacturing operations. The new tenures add to the company’s existing ~734,000 m3 per year.

The transfer follows Weyerhaeuser’s May 2025 announcement of the sale of its Princeton lumber mill and associated timber tenures to a Gorman Group–formed entity. The family-owned company operates multiple facilities across BC, including Canoe Forest Products, Downie Timber, Selkirk Cedar, Gorman Bros. Lumber, and its Lumby pole division.
