Metsä announces closure of Finnish Plywood Mill

Metsä Wood plans to discontinue plywood production at its Suolahti mill in Finland due to poor profitability. Production at the birch plywood mill is expected to end by the first quarter of 2025, and at the spruce plywood mill by the end of 2026. The closure impacts about 370 employees, with efforts to support their employment within Metsä Group, including opportunities at the new Kerto LVL mill in Äänekoski. The Suolahti mill currently produces 35,000 m³ of birch plywood and 160,000 m³ of spruce plywood annually.
