Setra Doubles CLT Capacity in Långshyttan, Sweden

Setra, one of Sweden’s largest wood products companies, recently announced (3-11-24) that it is inaugurating a new processing machine for cross-laminated timber. The new machine will double the capacity of its CLT factory in Långshyttan.

The Långshyttan factory has a CNC machine and one of the world’s largest presses for CLT panels. For the past year, this machine has been running at full speed, Setra said. The new CNC machine that is now being fine-tuned makes it possible to increase the speed of production, sharpen precision, and carry out even more complicated machining.

In remarks accompanying the announcement, Hans Messing, factory manager for Setra’s glulam and CLT production in Långshyttan, said:

“As society’s green transition progresses, wood construction is growing. Setra wants to drive development forward in the industry by investing in standardized solutions that simplify customers’ everyday lives. When we deliver machined building components with holes for doors, windows, and installations, work on the construction site is very quick and cost-effective.

We also refine our CLT by, for example, offering moisture protection and fittings that are applied directly in the factory. Sustainability is constantly present and, as an example, we take care of all offcuts that are sold on and turned into building joists, among other things.”
