Holmen Announces Investment in Its Bygdsiljum, Sweden, Sawmill to Increase CLT Production
Holmen invests in more sustainable construction
Sweden’s Holmen announced on Tuesday (1-31-23) that it was planning an extension and investment at its Bygdsiljum Sawmill, which will help remove bottlenecks at the facility and increase CLT production.
Holmen’s business is built around the forest Eco Cycle and the renewable products it can create from it, with businesses in forestry, wood products, paperboard, paper, and renewable energy.
According to the press release, Holmen is investing in a new CNC milling machine—used to make cutouts for windows and doors in structural elements made of CLT—which will allow capacity to be increased by 50 percent. The new plant is expected to be operational by spring 2024.
Olov Martinson, mill manager at Bygdsiljum Sawmill, said:
“Demand for processed wood products, especially CLT and glulam beams, is growing and with rising interest in wood construction we see great opportunities to further develop the business. By investing in higher volumes of value-added products and increased sales to builders’ merchants, we are taking the next step to strengthen our business.”
