Western Forest Products Announces Two-Week Shutdown at Its Chemainus, BC, Sawmill

On Thursday, Western Forest Products (WFP) notified employees at its Chemainus, BC, sawmill of a two-week shutdown scheduled to begin the week of March 18th, CHEK reported (3-14-24).

WFP says the shutdown is related to market conditions and log availability for the mill. The mill was also shut down for two weeks over this past Christmas.

The shutdown of the Chemainus facility comes just weeks after WFP announced the completion of its kiln upgrade at its Saltair Division. In that same announcement, the company also revealed plans to invest $35 million (CAD) for continuous dry kilns for its Nanaimo and Chemainus divisions as well.
