West Fraser Mills Announces 16-Day Curtailment Starting on October 29th at Its Cariboo Pulp and Paper Facility

The Quesnel Cariboo Observer reported in its Monday (9-26-22) evening edition that West Fraser Mills has announced that operations at its Cariboo Pulp and Paper facility will be curtailed for 16 days beginning October 29, 2022, and will impact approximately 160 employees.

According to Joyce Wagenaar, a spokesperson for West Fraser Mills, the curtailment is necessary to better align Cariboo Pulp and Paper’s operating capacity with the available supply of wood chips.

“Timber supply and access has become an increasing challenge in British Columbia,” Wagenaar said. “Infestation, wildfire, forest policy decisions, and other considerations have resulted in fewer logs being processed in Interior sawmills, and therefore fewer wood chips and pulp logs are available as feedstock for BC pulp mills.”

Cariboo Pulp and Paper is jointly owned by West Fraser and Mercer International.
