Sun Mountain Lumber Purchases and Restarts Former R-Y Timber Sawmill in Livingston, Montana

Bozeman, Montana’s KULR8 reported on Monday (12-11-23) that jobs are returning to Livingston thanks to Sun Mountain Lumber, a Montana-based wood manufacturing company, having completed the purchase of the former R-Y Timber mill in November and restarting production.

According to Sun Mountain and KULR8, since the purchase was completed, they have been working diligently to restart the shuttered facility, which had suffered two separate fires (one to the mill and one to its planer mill within a two-month period, prompting the R-Y owners to close).

On December 4th, the sawmill’s equipment was back up and running with the help of former R-Y employees. The sawmill, which typically employs 70–75 people, has offered all previous employees their jobs back. As of December 4th, approximately 40 people were working.
