Southern Pine Lumber Exports Rise 2% in Q1
What’s the Story With Q1 2025 Southern Pine Exports?
According to USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service Global Agricultural Trade System, with additional analysis from the Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA), Southern pine lumber exports (treated and untreated) totaled 122 MMBF in Q1—up 2% from 2024Q4 but down 12% year-over-year.
In March, Southern pine lumber exports increased 4.6%, but remained 20% lower than a year ago.
By value, exports totaled $50 million in Q1, a 7% decline from 2024Q1 and down 17% from the previous quarter. Mexico led all markets at $13.2 million, followed by the Dominican Republic ($10.4 million) and Canada ($4.3 million). The total global value reached a six-month high of $18 million.
Treated lumber exports dropped 19% year-over-year to $28 million and were down 6% from 2024Q4. The top destinations included the Leeward-Windward Islands ($4.5 million), Jamaica ($3.8 million), and The Bahamas ($3.1 million).
Softwood lumber imports fell 5% year-over-year in Q1 to 3.4 MMBF but rose 3% from the previous quarter.
