Paper Excellence to Indefinitely Curtail Paper Production at Its Catalyst Crofton Facility in BC

On Thursday (1-25-24), Paper Excellence Canda announced it will indefinitely suspend paper production at its Catalyst Crofton facility on Vancouver Island, citing inflationary pressures on raw materials, energy costs, and a lack of domestic fiber supply.

Approximately 75 employees will be affected by the curtailment.

The mill’s pulp operations, which supports approximately 400 employees, will continue production during the indefinite paper curtailment, according to the press release.

In a statement accompanying the announcement, Paper Excellence Vice President of Public Affairs Blair Dickerson said:

“We recognize the difficulty this decision has placed on both our employees and the Cowichan Valley community. We will work to minimize negative impacts wherever possible.”
