Papasay Value-Added Wood Products Sawmill Operation in NW Ontario Expanding

Canadian Biomass Magazine reported on Tuesday (11-1-22) that Papasay Value-Added Wood Products sawmill operation in northwestern Ontario is expanding its site with the addition of heat networks and new equipment. The expansion is thanks to the Federal Economic Development Agency (FEDA) for Northern Ontario providing $1.7 million (CAD) in funding for the sawmill operation, which is owned and staffed by the Bingwi Neyaashi Anishinaabek.

The FEDA funds will support new and expanded heat networks, sewer, and water installations, as well as the purchase and installation of new equipment including saws, a moulder, and a kiln. The funding will also provide for the completion of a biomass boiler and processing center, and comprehensive worker training, including safety and operations instruction.

According to the company, the expansion project will create three new jobs and maintain three existing positions.
