Highland Grenada to Build Wood Pellet Facility in Grenada, Mississippi

SuperTalk Mississippi Media reported on Monday (10-23-23) that Highland Grenada LLC, an affiliate of Arkansas-based Highlands Pellets LLC, has recently announced its acquisition of a 144-acre former Georgia-Pacific OSB mill site in Grenada, Mississippi. The facility would be Grenada’s inaugural green energy project and wood pellet producer.

The Highland Group has a track record of responsibly deriving wood fiber and says it plans on removing smaller trees to prevent overcrowding and improve forest health, or thinning, noting it is a vital component for long-term forest fire prevention and healthy forests.

SuperTalk says the company actively engages with local communities by creating employment opportunities and sourcing quality pulpwood from local landowners, which further supports the wider forestry economy, including loggers, truckers, rail workers, and landowners.

The wood pellets produced at the Grenada facility will be efficiently transported by train to nearby rail spurs, rivers, and ports. This optimized transport network not only reduces emissions but also facilitates the timely delivery of high-specification pellets to global markets, positioning Grenada as a responsible and dependable supplier of fuel for renewable energy.
