Fire Damages Arbec’s OSB Mill in Amos, QC

Firefighters battled a major fire at Arbec Forest Products’ OSB plant in Amos, Quebec, on Tuesday night, Radio-Canada reported (1-22-25).

Emergency services were called shortly before 4:30 PM on Tuesday for a fire that broke out in the press at the plant, formerly Forex, which produces OSB panels. The director of the Amos fire department, Guy Béchard, says that the flames spread to the roof of the three-story building.

Unifor, the union which represents workers at the plant, confirmed Wednesday morning that employees were quickly evacuated when the fire broke out. Operations are stopped and employees are carrying out maintenance work.

The Arbec plant employs about 140 people, 110 of whom are unionized.
