Conifex Timber Announces Downtime at Its Mackenzie, BC, Sawmill

Conifex Timber Inc. announced Friday (5-19-23) that it has made the difficult decision to take unscheduled downtime for four weeks at its Mackenzie, BC, sawmill starting on June 5th. The company is estimating that approximately 16 million board feet will come out of production during the time period. Conifex says that its power plant operation will remain unaffected.

In the press release, Conifex said the downtime is necessitated by the low water levels forecasted in the Williston Reservoir, which will negatively impact the company’s ability to safely and efficiently utilize its reservoir assets, and reduced demand for lumber products amid challenging economic conditions.

Conifex says it intends to utilize the production downtime to complete critical maintenance activities at its sawmill. The company says it expects to resume normal lumber production operations in July but will continue to closely monitor market conditions and adjust production plans accordingly.
