Canfor Corporation Announces $210 Million Investment In a New Sawmill Facility in Southern Alabama

Canfor Corporation announced today (7-28-22) that it will be investing approximately $210 million (USD) to build a new, state-of-the-art sawmill complex in southern Alabama. The new sawmill will be using leading technology and will have an annual capacity, based on a two-shift basis, of 250 million board feet.

The new facility will be in alignment with Canfor’s sustainability goals and decarbonizing targets, and the facility design includes investment in biomass-fueled lumber drying system.

The new sawmill will replace the existing operation in the City of Mobile.

Following the construction and startup of the new facility, which is expected to be completed in Q3 of 2024, an orderly wind down of the Mobile operation will be undertaken. All current employees will have the opportunity to remain with the company.
