New York Transfers Former Butler Correctional Facility to Westbury Lumber

Empire State Development (ESD), New York’s chief economic development agency, announced that the former Butler Correctional Facility has been transferred to the Wayne County Industrial Development Agency and then to Westbury Lumber following a competitive request for proposals process.

Westbury Lumber, a wholesale hardwood sawmill that has operated next to the former correctional facility for more than 20 years, plans to use much of the 201-acre property for expansion and storage. The company said the acquisition will support growth beyond its current high-end Northeast markets and help it reach customers worldwide.

Wayne County Industrial Development Agency Executive Director Brian Pincelli said:

“Reusing the former Butler correctional facility will have a significant impact on the community. The IDA and County appreciate ESD staff’s work and support throughout this process, and we are especially grateful to Jason and the Westbury Lumber team. Their cooperation was essential to completing this transaction.”
