Longest Strike in B.C. Coastal Forest History Ended on Saturday

The 8-month strike between Western Forest Products (WFP), 6-mills on Vancouver Island and the United Steelworkers (USW) Union Local 1-1937 has come to an end. With 81.9% of the union’s membership voting to ratify the new 5-year agreement, which will actually run for 4-years and 4-months. The USW concedes that WFP will need sometime to ramp up again, but they expect more details from the company as early as this Tuesday. The agreement comes with a 12.5% pay increase over the remaining life of the agreement, as well as increases in life insurance and health benefits.
