Fire at Weyerhaeuser’s Grand Prairie, Alberta Sawmill Under Investigation, but Mill Remains Operational
No injuries reported following fire at Weyerhaeuser sawmill
Local news sources are reporting that on Monday morning (2-21-22), a total of 30 firefighters from the Grande Prairie County Regional Fire Service—which included firefighters and apparatus from the towns of Clairmont, Dunes, Bezanson, Sexsmith, and Grovedale, along with the fire brigade from International Paper—responded to a fire at the Weyerhaeuser sawmill located at 53018A 3A9 Resource Road in Grand Prairie, Alberta, Canada.
The fire was located in between the building walls, which made it difficult for firefighters to access the main body of fire. Crews remained on the scene chasing hot spots throughout the day and to make sure the building was safe.
No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire remains unknown. The County Fire Marshall and Weyerhaeuser facility workers are working together to determine the cause of the fire.
According to local news sources the building and the sawmill remains operational.
