US Wood Pellet Exports Retreat in December

The US exported 879,332.3 metric tons of wood pellets in December, down from 973,783.9 metric tons in November and 1.04 million metric tons in December 2023, a Biomass Magazine review (2-5-25) of data released by the US Department of Agriculture Foreign Agricultural Service shows.

The US exported wood pellets to more than a dozen countries in December. The UK was the top destination for exports at 649,587.8 metric tons, followed by Denmark at 128,295.3 metric tons and the Netherlands at 33,055.5 metric tons

The value of US wood pellet exports fell to $162.15 million in December, down from $162.25 million in November and $186.41 million in December 2023.

Total Exports in 2024

Total US wood pellet exports for 2024 reached 10.0 million metric tons at a value of $1.86 billion, compared to 9.6 million metric tons exported at a value of $1.73 billion in 2023.

The UK was the top destination for exports last year at 7 million metric tons, followed by Japan at 1.15 million metric tons and the Netherlands at 659,358 metric tons.
